Former Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati has joined the BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) board as a professional director.
Shashi Shekhar Vempati, who is currently the co-founder of DeepTech for Bharat Foundation has held several key positions across government bodies. He is the Chairperson of the Science and Technology Communication Apex Advisory Committee, where he advises and oversees the entire functioning in the area of Science and Technology Communication for the National Council for Science Technology Communication under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He has also been the Chairperson of the External Experts Group at the University Grants Commission of India.
Vempati has been vocal about AI, its usage, and its challenges. The BARC board welcomes him for his years of experience in the industry. “It is good to have him on the board. Given his background and years of experience, he will be able to bring a lot to the table,” BARC Chairman Shashi Sinha told exchange4media.
In the wake of the 2020 alleged TRP scam, the Information and Broadcasting Committee constituted a four-member team to review the guidelines on television rating agencies. This committee was headed by Vempati.
