Food delivery app Zomato got comic Samay Raina to roast the company on its sixteenth anniversary. The company has also released a tongue-in-cheek print ad that parodied birthday billboards put up by political parties for their leaders.
Raina, who is known for his dank humour, uploaded a part of the roast on his Instagram account on Wednesday.
The clip shows a Zomato delivery box being barbequed with founder-CEO Deepinder Goyal in the front row.
Raina is heard speaking about the cheesy notifications, reveals the T-shirt under his jacket being that of Zomato's biggest competitor Swiggy, and even about the customer care of the company in the short clip.
The post created quite a flurry with many other brands like Swiggy, Uno, Britannia and Book My Show commenting that they wouldn't want such a roast. Zomato also gave an epic reply saying, "Samay aane pe tum bhi sahoge", alluding to not just Raina but also the timing being right.
The company also ran print ads on front pages across national dailies on the occasion. It featured some of the core team members, including Goyal, co-founder Akriti Chopra, CFO Akshant Goyal and food delivery CEO Rakesh Ranjan.
The format of the ad was a parody of infamous birthday posters and ads put up by political parties for their leadership. The language used in the ad also reflected this, with even the designations being changed to suit the theme. The ticker on the bottom made it clear that the ad was just meant for fun.
Several of the comments for the LinkedIn post had netizens posting birthday wishes in Hindi.
